Marin Cazacu studied cello at the Liceul de Muzică in Bucharest with Professor Ion Urcan, then at the National University of Music in Bucharest, with renowned teachers Serafim Antropov and Aurel Niculescu. He perfected in Weimar with Professor Lászlo Mezo and he was Radu Aldulescu’s assistance at master classes. Marin Cazacu is a recipient of international competitions in Geneva, Markneukirchen, Leipzig, Bologna, Belgrade.
He has been a soloist of the Philharmonic “George Enescu” Bucharest since 1983 and has done extensive work both in Romania and abroad, under the baton of great conductors: Gennady Rojdestvenski, Sergiu Comissiona, Lu Jin, Nanse Gum Cristian Mandel, Horia Andreescu, Antoni Ros Marba, Mendi Rodan, Misha Katz, Jean Périsson.
He sang together with prestigious artists such as Vladimir Orlov, Valentin Gheorghiu, Radu Aldulescu, Mihaela Martin, Mirel Iancovici, Ilia Grubert, Jeremy Menuhin and as a member of “Pro Arte” band and collaborator of “Voces” quartet, as well as for great European festivals (Munich, Berlin, Milan, Venice, Valencia, Bratislava, Sofia).
Since 1992 he has been teaching cello at Universitatea Naţională de Muzică from Bucharest. In 1998 he founded “Cellissimo” quartet – together with Alexandra Guţu, Răzvan Suma and Olga Mănescu – a group with which he performed at festivals in Venice, Mateus (Portugal), Macao, Singapore, Istanbul, Madrid and Romania and he performs recitals with his students from 8 to 12 cellos in the „Violoncellissimo“ band. He recorded for „Electrecord“ and „Olympia“.
